PE (Physical Education)
Sports and PE play a crucial role in our curriculum at Nine Acres.
All children have two hours of Physical Education lessons each week, led by our two sports coaches and the class teachers. We actively promote a 'striving for Excellence' ethos and our lessons provide the opportunity for ALL children to work on their own skills and goals as well as improving their aspirations about their own physical and mental ability. Our sports coaches work closely with our teachers to ensure that there is a strong link between PE lessons and other subject areas, such as Science and PSHE, where children learn about the skeletal and circulatory systems and why it is important to lead active, healthy lifestyles.
All children also have the opportunity to attend lunchtime and after school clubs that are based on developing physical skills, our four school values and 'striving for Excellence' everyday.
In addition to promoting healthy lifestyles for our children, PE promotes opportunities for children to be creative, cooperative and competitive and to face up to different challenges both as individuals and in groups. Children learn to develop the notion of fair play, honest competition, good sportsmanship and dealing with both success and defeat.
We hold inter-house competitions, are involved in competitions involving other schools and we take part in the active travel scheme, shift it cycling opportuities as well as swimming lessons in KS2.
